In the thrilling world of electric hypercars, the Rimac Nevera has made headlines once again by not only pushing the boundaries but reversing them! Yes, you heard that right, the Nevera has just set a jaw-dropping Guinness World Record for achieving a mind-boggling speed of 171.34mph in reverse. This feat not only shatters the previous record of 102.58mph, which had held strong for over two decades but also brings a new level of excitement to the world of supercars.

In a remarkable blend of humor and sheer brilliance, Rimac decided to have some fun and set a new world record by sending their "Time Attack Edition" Nevera in the opposite direction. Who knows, maybe they're eyeing a sideways speed attempt to complete the triumvirate of unique records in the future?

This incredible test took place at the Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany, where the Nevera had already broken over 20 other acceleration and braking records in a single day, including an astonishing 256mph top-speed run.

Matija Renic, the chief program engineer of the Nevera, shared his thoughts on this unprecedented endeavor: "It occurred to us during development that Nevera would probably be the world’s fastest car in reverse, but we kind of laughed it off. The aerodynamics, cooling, and stability hadn't been engineered for traveling backward at high speeds, after all. But then we started to talk about how fun it would be to give it a shot."

Test driver Goran Drndak also weighed in on the experience: "You're facing straight out backward, watching the scenery flash away from you faster and faster, feeling your neck pulled forwards in almost the same sensation you would normally get under heavy braking. You're moving the steering wheel gently, being careful not to upset the balance, all while keeping an eye on the speed."

In addition to this astonishing reverse record, Rimac, which also holds a majority stake in Bugatti, set an outright Nürburgring electric car lap record of just seven minutes and five seconds with the Nevera earlier this year. To put this achievement in perspective, it's eight seconds quicker than a Porsche 918 Spyder - truly mind-blowing!

All of these remarkable feats were made possible by the Nevera's unique drivetrain, featuring four liquid-cooled electric motors and a 120kWh battery. This setup results in an astounding 1,914bhp and 1,740 lb ft of torque, allowing the Nevera to sprint from 0-200mph in under 11 seconds. Rimac claims this translates to an 8.25-second quarter-mile time, which could give even Dominic Toretto and his Dodge Charger a run for their money. With its ferocious reverse-pace, who knows, maybe Rimac can send the Nevera back in time to rewrite the records from 2001!
