KIA |
Minivans often don't get the credit they deserve, overshadowed by the coolness of SUVs. Kia, however, has cracked the code with the 2025 Carnival. It's a master of disguise, flaunting SUV-inspired style while serving as the ultimate family chariot. Glide seamlessly into the school pickup line and watch as your kids emerge from its sliding side doors. On long trips or quick errands, the potent 290-hp V-6 engine guarantees a smooth and efficient ride. While all-wheel drive isn't on the menu, front-wheel drive paired with snow tires provides excellent winter traction. The Carnival offers cavernous interior space compared to three-row SUVs, yet rivals like the Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey outsize it. Notably, the Kia boasts second-row lounge chairs for extended comfort, though they're not removable, limiting its cargo capacity.
What's in Store for 2025?
Kia introduced the Carnival to the U.S. market in 2022, and already, it's getting a stylish makeover for 2025. Updates to the grille, headlamps, taillamps, wheels, and lower body panels infuse it with the spirit of the EV9 electric crossover. Introducing a new trim called 'Gravity' with sleek blacked-out elements, although it's currently confirmed for the Korean market only.
Pricing and the Perfect Pick
With four trim levels to choose from, the EX stands out as the optimal choice, striking a balance between features and price. It boasts convenience features like a power rear liftgate, an in-cabin intercom, and a voice-control system for rear-seat passengers to command the infotainment system.
Power and Performance
Under the hood, the Carnival is powered by a robust 3.5-liter V-6 engine, producing a hearty 290 hp, matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive isn't an option; this Carnival is exclusively front-wheel drive. Its ride and handling are well-balanced, offering a smooth cruise and composed cornering. The V-6 engine delivers sprightly acceleration, propelling the Carnival to 60 mph in just 7.0 seconds during our test.
Efficiency in Motion
According to the EPA, the Carnival achieves fuel economy ratings of 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. In our testing, it even surpassed its EPA rating, achieving 28 mpg on the highway.
Interior Comfort and Cargo Space
The Carnival's interior is modern and spacious, with a generously sized center console and an optional dual-screen infotainment system. The upscale SX Prestige trim boasts leather upholstery and reclining second-row seats with pop-up footrests, perfect for relaxed road trips. However, these seats can't be removed or stowed, limiting maximum cargo space. The optional panoramic sunroof opens up the second row, providing a breath of fresh air for passengers. In our tests, we managed to fit 14 carry-on suitcases behind the third row and a whopping 48 with all seats folded. While that's a generous amount of cargo space, it's worth noting that rivals like the Pacifica and Odyssey offer slightly more room.
Elevate Your Ride with Cutting-Edge Infotainment
Digital Delight: Dual 12.3-Inch Displays
Step into the Carnival, and you're in for an infotainment treat. While an 8.0-inch screen comes standard, the real showstopper is the optional dual 12.3-inch displays dominating two-thirds of the dashboard. One dazzles as a digital gauge display, while the other handles your infotainment needs. And the good news? You've got Apple CarPlay and Android Auto at your fingertips. In this tech-savvy cabin, you'll find up to nine USB ports, ensuring everyone stays charged and connected. While you're at it, consider the optional rear-seat entertainment system, available from the SX trim, or crank up the volume with the 12-speaker Bose stereo, exclusive to the top-of-the-line SX Prestige trim.
